Procedure: lumbar decompression for lumbar spinal stenosis

About a year ago I noticed I was having pain in both my legs when I walked. At first it wasn’t anything serious and the pain would go away as soon as I sat down. So I didn’t do anything about it. During the next few months the pain got progressively worse though and I was finally convinced by my wife to see our doctor. He diagnosed me with something called “lumbar spinal stenosis”. He also suggested I undergo lumbar decompression surgery but I declined since the pain was still manageable. However, as the doctor predicted the pain soon became significant and began to limit my mobility. I had no choice. I agreed to the surgery and asked our GP to refer me to a neurosurgeon. Shortly afterward I received a letter confirming my appointment, in 2 months time! I couldn’t believe it. What was I supposed to do? Just put up with this pain for months? While waiting for the appointment I decided to explore my options. I did some research and came across Neuro Spine Riga.

I rang them up and the UK patient coordinator explained how everything worked. She also explained that I might be able to get NHS to reimburse me for having the surgery in Riga although it wasn’t guaranteed. I decided to go ahead with the idea. The staff at Neuro Spine Riga helped me apply to NHS for the funding and to my great relief I found out 4 weeks later I was approved! I immediately called the clinic and set up a surgery date for just a couple of weeks later. When I got there everyone was great. Exactly what you want from hospital staff. I had a nice conversation with the surgeon too who was a really bright fellow with a lot of experience. The day after the surgery the pain was gone and the day after that I was discharged. The whole process was smooth as silk. 3 days after the operation I returned to Reading and with the help of Neuro Spine Riga staff I was able to complete the reimbursement process. All I can say is this: If you need back surgery you owe it to yourself to contact Neuro Spine Riga. They’ll restore your faith in health care.
